The History And Mystery of Cosmetics

The cosmetics craze continued throughout the centuries into the 1900's and began to see the earliest of the cosmetics industry being formed. Mrs. Henning's House of Cyclax in London sold many products that you can still buy today from world famous companies like Avon. Another beauty salon owner found herself expanding her products to meet the demands of her upper class clientele from a facial cream that protects women's skin from the sun to lipstick and face powder. Today, you can find a whole line of cosmetics from Helena Rubenstein.

As the years went on, the popularity of beauty salons continued to increase. In 1909, a salon called Selfridges began to sell cosmetics out in the open ver the counter. Women's attitudes began to change and confidence grew.  When the Russian ballet came to London, the influence of high art was apparent on many designers. A man named Paul Poiret was one of the first to come out with a much more vibrant and colorful look. It was also the first time that permanent cosmetics was seen. Women could tattoo their lipstick and eye shadow permanently on their faces.

During the 1930's the fashion of lipstick went to a darker shade with a variety of shades. Around the time of WW II, ingredients for cosmetics was at a severe shortage and women underwent a kind of make-down. This ended right when the war did and demand for cosmetics increased more than ever. Competitors began manufacturing a number of products to meet the demands of the female consumer.

Today's woman is the benefactor of all these years of trial and error with a virtually unlimited choice of products for any look they want to achieve. There are literally thousands of companies who have products in this now billion dollar yearly industry. Cosmetic products sell year round and even in times of recession.

So ladies, thank your ancestors and their concern for their own appearance for your own that you have today. There were probably days when they woke up and didn't really feel like going through the hassle of putting on their face either.

These Easy, Meaningful Feng Shui Home Tips Can Instantly Attract Positivity Into Your Life

Feng Shui is the practice of bringing great fortune by achieving balance between all of the elements. More Americans are getting interested in Feng Shui, and are now consulting with experts in how to use these practices at home. In order to learn from what professional practitioners say, you must educate yourself on Feng Shui areas that require your attention so you will be able to use your decor appropriately.

First, draw a layout of your living space. Be sure to notate the directions (north, south, east, and west) as this becomes important in Feng Shui later.

Ideal Feng Shui dictates that the front and back doors should never align with each other. This is because Feng Shui energy that goes in one door, will simply dissipate through the other without any benefit to the home’s residents. If this is true of your living space, decorate with a plant or some other large decor object to block the direct path of doors. Add a throw rug with angles to help dictate the direction of the Feng Shui energy.

To bring more positivity into the living space, add some light! Open the curtains and let the sunshine illuminate your rooms. Add green plants, as they’re cheery and natural; green is also a powerful color in Feng Shui, bringing happiness and joy into your life. You can try other bright colors too, as well as mirrors and chimes with a pleasing tone.

A water fountain inside the home refreshes everyone’s Chi as it flows here and there. It’s also really fascinating to watch as you meditate. If you’re able to add some goldfish into the fountain, even better! Gold colored things, especially goldfish, enhance attraction to wealth as they remind us of gold coins in the fountain!
The color red is significant in Feng Shui because it’s a “hot” color, full of decadence, passion, and creative energy. Use it sparingly. If you’re considering it for furniture, such as a red couch or other sitting areas, use caution. It may bring its user overstimulation which leads to restless feelings and possibly worsen their temper. It’s fine for small details, but not as a main color in a common area of the home.

Now we’ll talk a little about directions. The northern point of your home should be noted, and coordinated with other areas. Now look at your most southwestern area; this spot is where relationship energy is contained, so do what you can to create harmony. Declutter often, and decorate with love and friendship themes. Some red is a plus here, but avoid greens and too much wood or you’ll find your relationships changing with the seasons!

Get a round table for your dining room, since the shape is lucky and signals the heavens for miracles. Make sure chairs are even in number — in pairs — and comfortable for sitting and socializing as they eat. Use simple decor, though. Make the meals and each other the focal points.

Feng shui is a lot of fun, and can actually make for some beautiful and interesting decor ideas whether you reveal the basis of your decorating choices or not. However, a home that’s subtly decorated to attract positive Feng Shui does make a fascinating and hip conversation piece as well!

New Business Strategies, New Profits

Last week, one of my clients -- we'll call him Rick -- had a demo scheduled with a prospect. The standard "show up and throw up" they typically did early in the sales cycle.

Trying to shorten the sales cycle, I asked naively, "Why does the customer want to buy? What are they trying to accomplish?" Rick couldn't tell me. I asked if he thought the salespeople knew. He said no. I gave him an assignment: he had to find out "Why," "Why now," and "What's it worth." Otherwise no demo.

In other words, no compelling reason to buy... No demo.

So Rick took a risk, and is rapidly moving to a fully-paid trial implementation.

Sure, long-term objectives and plans still matter, but I've been getting more and more inquiries focused on "what to do now." Entrepreneurs and executives alike are demanding help on how to improve revenues and profits right away.

How do you make the quickest difference? Focus the bulk of your energy on revenue generation. In other words, sales! And don't do it the same old way either, because  --  as you may have noticed  --  it isn't working that well.

Here are five ways for your sales force to bring in more business in short order. There are no magic bullets, but just last week I taught one of these techniques to a client (#2) and he used it to close a deal the following day! Use one or use them all. Each technique will have its own effect, and each will multiply the power of the others.

1. Sell return on investment, and sell it to the CFO.

Sales people are complaining that while the pipeline may be full, the deals are taking too long to close. Perhaps that's why the pipe is so full! What are the reasons for this? Companies have money, and in many cases they have needs. But many people are so scared THEIR customers aren't going to buy THEIR wares, they are loath to spend any money themselves. The result? They are only willing to spend money when they absolutely see near-term financial payback, and the CFO is killing many deals.

The solution? Sell the return on investment. Sell the payback. And sell it to the CFO. Arm your salespeople with two things: A series of case studies that document the returns from using your product, and a well-defined ROI process worksheet. Work with the CFO to build the ROI case so that he or she owns it. This is the only way they come to believe it. Make it their idea and instead of killing your deal, they will help you close it.

2. Forget USP. Determine your Usage Cases

Instead of focusing on why your product is the latest and greatest, clarify the ways in which potential customers will use your product to solve specific problems and produce tangible results. Then, instead of touting the "benefits" of your product -- which often fall on deaf ears, anyway -- engage your prospects in conversations about what costly and quantifiable problems they now have, and how they might use your product or service to alleviate those.
